Old Sturbridge Village has always had cows—this summer we have even more! Come see more than two dozen life-size cow sculptures creatively decorated by New England artists as they “graze” amongst our 1830s homes, gardens, and meadows.

Step into the heart of history in our 1830s Village, now alive with vibrant, color-splashed cows at every turn. Bovine designs range from contemporary to classic capturing a variety of playful “moo’ds” including many inspired by the Old Sturbridge Village collection, as well as its historic homes, gardens, and trades. You won’t want to miss CowParade, where history and artistic imagination collide…only this summer, only at Old Sturbridge Village.

CowParade has found its way to 80+ cities in 62 countries delighting 250 million people around the globe. This summer the herd stops in Sturbridge, MA where visitors will be udderly enamored by the creativity of 25+ New England artists who have transformed life-size cow sculptures into a moo-ving and memorable art exhibit.

MOO’VING FACTS
A fair quality cow in 1830s New England would produce enough milk to make approximately 100 pounds of butter and 150 pounds of cheese a year.
A middling farm like the Freeman Farm at Old Sturbridge Village might have been 75 to 100 acres and had four to seven cows.
According to records from the Massachusetts Board of Agriculture, there were more than 148,000 dairy cows in Massachusetts in 1855, plus oxen, steers, and heifers.
Earlier this year, Old Sturbridge Village put out a call for art and received more than 260 design proposals for CowParade! Five judges from the community and Village staff then carefully picked the final designs for CowParade at the Village. The chosen designs feature themes like gardens, pottery, OSV Museum Collection artifacts, wallpaper, ice cream, butter, and more.

WHEN IS THE COWPARADE?
CowParade is a public art exhibit that runs from June 21st to September 28th, open Wednesday - Sunday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
WHERE’S OLD STURBRIDGE VILLAGE LOCATED?
Old Sturbridge Village is located in Central Massachusetts, at the crossroads of the Massachusetts Turnpike I-90, and the Connecticut I-84. Our address is 1 Old Sturbridge Village Road, Sturbridge, MA 01566.
HOW DO I BUY TICKETS?
Tickets can be purchased online (click here), at the entrance gate, or by phone. Advance purchase is recommended during peak weekends, and you'll also receive a $3 discount per ticket.
WHAT DISCOUNTS AM I ELIGIBLE FOR?
We offer discounts for Military, College Students (with valid ID), teachers, EBT card holders, and more! Be sure to bring your ID for on-site verification. For more information about discounts, click here.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS COWPARADE?
Unfortunately, once the CowParade ends on September 28th, the display will be taken down. But don’t worry, photos and highlights will be available online, and there may be future CowParade events in the area!
WHAT IF I WANT TO BECOME A MEMBER?
Becoming a member is easy! You can sign up through the Old Sturbridge Village website or guest services on-site. Membership comes with benefits like unlimited standard daytime admission, discounts, and access to special programs. Learn more about membership here.
WHAT IF I HAVE A MEMBERSHIP WITH THE VILLAGE, WILL I NEED TO BUY A TICKET?
No additional ticket is needed! Current Old Sturbridge Village members receive free admission to the CowParade as part of their benefits.
IS THE COWPARADE FAMILY-FRIENDLY AND PET-FRIENDLY?
The CowParade is a fun and educational experience for people of all ages. While service animals are welcome on Old Sturbridge Village property, pets and emotional support animals are not permitted.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE COWS AFTER THE COWPARADE?
As the season winds down in September, many of these unique artworks will be rounded up for a special auction. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Old Sturbridge Village, ensuring that this vibrant public art event continues to support our commitment to living history, animals, agriculture, trades and arts, and early life in rural New England. Ten cows are currently available for auction online; learn more here. Select cows will also be available for live auction during Cocktails with the Cows: Denim and Diamonds on September 12, 2025. Cows will be available for pickup after CowParade at the Village ends on September 28, 2025.
